KHANA participates in national level policy development activities and technical working groups to assist in strengthening national systems and strategies for managing the prevention, care and treatment of HIV and AIDS. Because of the way that we work, KHANA is well placed to bring experience and lessons learned from implementation at community level to share with policy makers. This contributes to the evidence base for an effective response to HIV and AIDS in Cambodia.
Through our regular participation at different national technical working groups and forums KHANA continues to work closely with government and other stakeholders to bring the concerns and voices of those vulnerable and most at risk to HIV to policy development and planning as necessary. For example in 2007, KHANA staff played key roles in the development of the National Strategic Plan for a Comprehensive and Multi-sectoral Response to HIV/AIDS 2006 – 2010 and the Situation and Response Analysis of HIV and AIDS in Cambodia 2007 Update and research evaluations on most at risk populations, including: men who have sex with men, sex workers and drug users. Additionally, KHANA staff members were selected as members of a technical working group designing a national methadone substitution therapy program.
