Background

“Rachana”, in Khmer means to be creative and artistic. Rachana is a locally staffed and managed

Cambodian NGO which was established in 1994 to continue and expand the work of the US based

Cambodian Humanitarian Foundation (CHF).

Rachana initially focused on birth spacing community-based Distribution (CBD) Component and

Maternal and Child Health (MCH) program but in 1998 an HIV Prevention Project was created

through support from KHANA.

Rachana continues to provide a community based model with considerable experience in

contributing to development of a new health coverage system and engaging with full community

structure and resources as the key to community participation. From 2004, Rachana transformed

its project activities on HIV Prevention to Home Based Care. Focusing on providing prevention and

services to people living with HIV and their families were living in Rominh, Prey Khlar, Chikhmar,

Sanlong, Prembei Mom, Angk Khoar and Prey Slaek Health Centers. In addition, the project had

also provided education to students in Koh Andeth junior and high school, Prey Melong junior high

school, Prey Thom junior high school, and Thnol Bek high school. KHANA supports integrated

support and prevention in 2 Operational Districts (Kirivong and Daunkeo), 2 Health Centres, 3

communes and 34 Villages.

 

Vision

RACHANA is a strong organization with appropriately skilled and experienced staff in promoting the

health and socio-economic well-being of poor and vulnerable people in rural communities.

 

Mission Statement

RACHANA, as a fair and just organization, will continue to strengthen the capacity of its

communities in order to develop the knowledge and decision-making ability and to promote

behavior change among poor and vulnerable people in rural communities.

 

Human Resources

20 full-time staff members, seven staff members are female ( four full-time staff, two health centre

staff, four team volunteers and 12 village volunteer supported by KHANA).
