Background
Khmer Women’s Cooperation for Development (KWCD) is a local Cambodian Non-Governmental
Organization which began in August 1997, gaining official registration with the Ministry of Interior in
1998. KWCD was established by two Cambodian women and one man who all had a background
and experience in health. Currently KWCD has a head office in Phnom Penh and there are three
other sub-offices in Sihanouk Ville, Takeo and Kampot province.
KWCD’s main goal is to contribute to poverty reduction, promote the rights of vulnerable groups
and to improve the quality of health care in Cambodia.
Khmer Women’s Cooperation for Development (KWCD)’s initial activity was the establishment of
a credit program based on a small loan from the Rural Development Bank. KWCD has focused its
work in the areas of community development, micro-credit, women’s empowerment, human
trafficking, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS outreach education to sex workers, Home Based Care
and OVC. KHANA supports HIV care, support and prevention in 1 Operational District (Sihanouk
Ville), 2 Health Centres, 2 communes covering in 9 villages.

KWCD‘s vision is to improve the health conditions and the quality of the life of the Cambodian
people.
Mission Statement
KWCD is committed to pursuing the involvement of Cambodian citizens especially women and
children to improve their quality of lives.
