Background
KWWA is a local non-governmental, non-profit organization, and is not affiliated with any political
parties. It has been actively implementing programmes that integrate community development in
target areas in order to alleviate poverty in accordance with the poverty reduction strategy of the
Royal Government of Cambodia. Kratie Women’s Welfare Association (KWWA) was established in
1993 and is located in Kratie Province. KWWA officially registered in 1994 and received Ministry of
Interior recognition in 2003.
KWWA officially changed its name from Kratie Women’s Welfare Association to Kampuchea
Women’s Welfare Action on 7th November 2007, keeping the same acronym of KWWA.
KWWA has played a major role, since its inception in 1993, in empowering and enhancing the
quality of life of women and children through community based activities such as HIV and AIDS
prevention and care, equal access, income generation, preparedness for disaster management,
and recently food security. Specifically, KWWA is getting support from KHANA to implement
integrated care including HBC and Prevention in 1 Operational District (Kratie), 3 Health Centres,
covering 9 communes, 32 villages.
Building on the last 14 years a strategic plan has been developed for the next three years
with five priorities:
• Develop relationships and cooperation with the Royal Government of Cambodia, communities,
donors, partners, and other stakeholders.
• Promotion of women and children health care activities
• Improve capacities of women and children in economic and social activities
• Environment conservation and disaster management
• KWWA organisational development
