Background

Battambang Women’s AIDS Project (BWAP) is a local Cambodian Non-Governmental

Organization, which was formed to provide HIV education services to the general population in

Battambang Province. It was established by two Cambodian women who had a background and

experience in health and HIV education to refugees in Site Two Camp, in Thailand. In 1998 it

received recognition by the Supreme National Council of Cambodia and in the year following was

authorized by Ministry of Interior to set up a sub office in Pailin. Coverage under KHANA funding:

Two Operational Districts (Thmor Koul and Pailin), 8 HCs (four under USAID), 14 (four under

USAID) Communes, and 110 villages (30 under USAID).

 

Vision

To see all people in Cambodia, especially those with high-risk, receive equality of care/support and

AIDS preventive services without discrimination and to be effective in promoting equality.

 

Mission Statement

To contribute to the reduced risk of HIV, AIDS, TB & STI and mitigate the impact of HIV through

grassroots dissemination and education.

 

Human Resources

14 full time staffs, 8 part time health centre staffs, 51 part time village volunteers and commune

volunteers, and 5 part time health supervisors supported through KHANA
