Background

 

The Association of Farmer Development (AFD) is a local non-governmental, non-profit,

non-partisan organization. AFD was established in 1993 by a core group of people who were

repatriated from refugee camps to Takeo province, including teachers, handicraft workers, nurses

and farmers. After UNTAC monitoring of the country’s election process human rights and

democratic principles became influential and began to be taught to civilian police. AFD was

registered at the Cambodian Ministry of Interior in 1994. Work supported by KHANA includes

integrated support and prevention one Operational District (Kirivong), two HCs, 4 communes and

35 villages.

 

Vision

 

AFD’s vision is to enable people to gain good welfare access, food security, income, knowledge,

experience and democracy through community development programs.

 

Mission Statement

 

To see Cambodian people, women, children and minority groups however small, and PLHIV

develop their living conditions and live in morality in a transparent, democratic, non–violent and

non-discriminatory society by respecting Human Rights, the rule of law, peace and gender.

To see civil society gain enough capacity to implement freely in accordance with national and

international law and to fill the gaps of government by methods of non–violence for the purpose

of reducing the poverty of Cambodians.

To integrate equal participation and development of children, women, men and PLHIV into all

fields of Cambodian society.
