Our Programme

KHANA receives technical and financial support from a range of international donors and partners and, in turn, supports grass-roots NGOs and community-based organisations (CBOs) to implement activities throughout Cambodia.

These activities include prevention work, the provision of care and support for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) and orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and advocacy and awareness-raising initiatives to challenge stigma and discrimination. Local communities are actively involved in the design and implementation of all programmes, so that they respond to people’s real needs and vulnerabilities. By reaching a range of people most vulnerable to HIV infection and working closely with them, we can contribute to reducing the rates of STI and HIV. And for people infected and affected our programmes help to mitigate the health, psycho-social and economic impacts of HIV/AIDS.

To enable local partner organisations to carry out this work and flourish, KHANA supports them by capacity-building - by strengthening their organisational and financial management for instance, or by providing vital knowledge and skills through workshops and publications. KHANA also helps them to build strong working relationships with government and health centres in the provision of key medical services such as Voluntary Confidential Counselling and Testing (VCCT), Anti-Retroviral Treatment (ARV) and TB treatment.

In 2004, KHANA supported 71 local NGOs and 11 CBOs. 117 projects were implemented in 14 provinces and 2 municipalities. 1,966 villages in 33 Operational Districts and 95,194 people were reached, including a wide variety of specific groups such as sex workers, men who have sex with men, married couples, out-of-school youth, young people in school, uniformed services and factory workers.

KHANA continues to expand the range and scope of its activities, working towards a time when all Cambodians, particularly those who are vulnerable, have equal access to effective, non-discriminatory HIV prevention and care and support services.
